1. Context<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

Cristal Union<\/strong> is a cooperative group and one of the leading producers of beet sugar and alcohol<\/strong> in Europe, bringing together more than 9,000 farmer-cooperators<\/strong> across France.<\/p>\n

For several years, sugar beet crops have been increasingly affected by cercospora leaf spot<\/strong>, a fungal disease that can cause yield losses of 25 to 30%<\/strong> for farmers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

This disease thrives under specific weather conditions: warm temperatures (optimal between 19 and 26\u00b0C)<\/strong> and high humidity. As climate change intensifies, average temperatures rise,<\/strong> and periods of heavy rainfall<\/strong> become more frequent<\/p>\n

The result? Cristal Union is facing more frequent and intense cercospora outbreaks<\/strong> across all production areas.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

2. Challenge<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

To help its members combat the disease, Cristal Union\u2019s agronomy team launched its own cercospora development model in 2018, enabling farmers to act at the right time to control the risk of fungal spread: Cristal Cerc\u2019OAD\u00ae<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

To create a reliable and high-performance Decision Support Tool<\/strong>, the company relied on the results of 7 years of experimentation and data<\/strong> from its network of connected weather stations.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\"To feed our tool\u2019s algorithms<\/strong>, we needed very precise weather data: geolocated at the plot level, reliable over time, and ideally requiring little or no maintenance. The problem with weather stations<\/strong> \u2014 beyond the initial investment \u2014 is the need for regular upkeep<\/strong>. That adds extra work and significant maintenance costs.\"<\/p>\n

3. Solution<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

Cristal Union ultimately chose Meteo Vision<\/strong><\/a>, Weenat\u2019s spatialized weather data solution and the European leader in agricultural weather data.<\/p>\n

The result? The cooperative successfully deployed the DST to its 9,000 members<\/strong>, with very low installation costs and zero maintenance.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

The tool has been a hit: today, 1 in 2 members has adopted Cristal Cerc\u2019OAD\u00ae in high-risk areas \u2014 covering more than 80,000 hectares of crops.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even better: Cristal Union observed an average yield increase of 7 tonnes at 16\u00b0 per hectare<\/strong> in trials using Cristal Cerc\u2019OAD\u00ae.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\"Beyond the yield gains, Cristal Cerc\u2019OAD\u00ae saves us both time and efficiency. According to the IPM method, determining when to treat requires sampling 100 leaves and counting how many show symptoms<\/strong>. It\u2019s time-consuming, and we often intervene too late when the disease is already established. \"<\/p>\n
