Weenat technology: weather data calibrated with observations on the ground
At Weenat, we’re deeply devoted to data. Our motto: soil and weather working together.
In farming, weather is at the heart of your decisions even more than before with climate change. Everyone in the agricultural world is feeling the impact.
So a better understanding of the weather and soil over a farm’s whole land is a powerful tool for better agronomic performance and making better decisions.
Unique technology for weather and agronomic data
Being aware of the weather over the next few days is essential. Knowing exactly what happened yesterday or last month over the whole of a farm’s land is even better for measuring actual impact on crops.
So our teams of data scientists, developers, meteorologists and agronomists worked hard to develop unique spatialized weather technology based on data from observations on the ground.
Technology that can provide you with reliable and consistent data across time and space at the level of your land, whether to supply a Decision Support Tool, calibrate an agronomic model or create a report on your season.
In short, you’ll have a detailed understanding of the variability in the weather conditions on your land, you’ll have better performance and you’ll make decisions tailored to conditions on the ground!

Spatialized weather observation: the synergy of measurements and calculations
Based on a network of reference surface stations (Weenat sensors and stations at national meteorological bodies), remote sensing and national weather reference models, we developed a geospatialization algorithm able to provide meteorological information down to the km², hour by hour over the whole of a farm’s land.
We’ll walk you through it.
Multisource data and data calibration using sensors
The design principle for our technology is processing very large amounts of data from various sources (spatialized weather data and soil measurements).
Weather models
Weenat’s technology integrates data from weather models developed by the main international meteorological players (Météo France, Deutscher Wetterdienst in Germany, the National Weather Service in the USA, etc.).

Remote sensing
- Rain radars
These emit waves that, when they meet clouds, are reflected by raindrops or ice crystals back towards the antenna. They enable the amount of rain and how far away it is to be determined.
- Weather satellites
Put into orbit around the earth, these are equipped with various measurement instruments, such as radiometers (to measure the atmospheric temperature) or sounders (to assess humidity). Satellite images allow the sky to be monitored in real time for many different parameters such as clouds, depressions and the risk of storms.
Sensors and surface stations
These measure a whole range of atmospheric and soil parameters at a specific geographic point. They let us supply our algorithm with data measured hyperlocally.
This data comes from reference weather stations. Because with over 10,000 weather stations installed in France and Europe, Weenat is also an expert in surface measurements.
And that makes all the difference! Because data measured by physical sensors feed the algorithm to fine-tune its recommendations with the reality on the ground. This means that the spatialized data is recharacterized and enriched with the help of hyperlocal measurements from reference weather stations chosen for a 360° view of your land.
Quality control and downscaling
One of our algorithm’s strengths is the reliability of its data.
To guarantee the quality of the more than one billion data points delivered every day, our technology verifies and analyzes the consistency of input data and separates outlying data to ensure a high level of quality for the data used by the algorithm.
Its other strength is our ability to standardize data at variable spatial and temporal resolutions. For this, data is organized and stored to enable comparison between different datasets later on This is known as dynamic downscaling. This technique allows the spatial and temporal scale to be made uniform for all input data to our algorithm (down to the km and hour by hour).
Spatial and temporal consistency
The model’s data is rendered as a weather grid, with one square kilometer-sized squares.
Imagine your land being cut up into parcels with sides of 1 kilometer.
Our model allows a reliable history of the key parameters for agricultural activity to be calculated for each of these squares.
In concrete terms, the algorithm combines large amounts of data and calculates, parcel by parcel, hour by hour, all the parameters for the day before.
The results of these calculations are then stored to create a complete database with a spatial resolution of one kilometer and a temporal resolution of one hour.
High temporal and spatial resolution data to support all your decisions
Thanks to Weenat’s technology, you’ll have a detailed understanding of the variability in the weather, agronomic and soil conditions on any part of your land, all year long.
You’ll have access to reliable, high-quality data to supply a Decision Support Tool, calibrate an agronomic model or get a better understanding of your season…
You’ll have better performance, and you’ll make operational and strategic decisions tailored to conditions on the ground. And that changes everything!
