The only connected rain gauge built to last

Whether it rains, snows or is windy, your Weenat Connected Rain Gauge is there, outside.
Busy measuring what’s happening on your plots. So we wanted sturdy materials, capable of withstanding the worst weather conditions. For precision that lasts, even after years.

Rain gauge measurements

Three measurements

The connected rain gauge or Weenat Connected Weather Station measures rain, air temperature and humidity.

Measurement  Unit Measurement principle Measurement range
Rainfall  mm Tipping bucket rain gauge – single spoon 0,2mm
Air temperature  °C Thermometry -40 à +60°C
Air Hygrometry % Rotronic hygrometer 0 à 100% Hr

Tipping bucket spoon

The rain arrives in a spoon calibrated at the factory for more precision. Each time it rains 0.2 mm, the spoon tips, empties, and returns to its starting position. The measured rain is then displayed in real time on the Weenat application.

Recalibratable humidity probe

Over time, humidity probes on weather stations tend to drift. At Weenat, if this happens to you, we exchange your old probe for a probe recalibrated at the factory. That way, you have a sensor as good as new.

Data transmission to the Weenat application

Sensor data is transmitted in near real-time via low-power Sigfox, LoRa or LTE-M NB-IoT (4G / 5G) networks, which are energy-efficient.

High quality equipment

Resistant battery

The Weenat sensor operates wirelessly. Instead, you’ll find an ultra-resistant battery, with a lifespan of at least 2 years. When it’s empty, your battery can be changed without the intervention of a technician.

316L stainless steel stand

It’s a low-carbon steel, to prevent corrosion. It’s very solid, and completely rust-proof. So you can be sure your sensor will still be standing, even in 50 years.

What are the weather parameters measured by the connected rain gauge?

The Weenat connected rain gauge is equipped with a single-bucket tipping spoon that allows it to measure rainfall (0.2 mm).

The weather sensor is also equipped with a Rotronic brand hygrometric probe. This probe functions both as a thermometer and as a hygrometer, which allows the sensor to measure air temperature (0.1°C) and relative humidity (0.8%) in real time.

This data, accessible from the Weenat agricultural weather application, allows you to monitor with great precision the evolution of agronomic and climatic conditions on your plots.

How does a Weenat connected rain gauge work?

How is rainfall measured?

Rainwater is collected by the receiving cone of your rain gauge and flows into a tipping bucket. To guarantee maximum precision, this spoon is calibrated at the factory.

When the spoon contains 4 ml, equivalent to a water depth of 0.2 mm/m², it tips, empties and returns to its initial position.

The tipping of the spoon is recorded by the sensor, which then counts 0.2 mm of precipitation.

And since a picture is worth 1,000 words, here’s a video of the spoon in operation.

Why is the Weenat rain gauge equipped with a single spoon?

The Weenat connected rain gauge measures rainfall using a single tipping bucket spoon. Why not opt for a double spoon?

  • For more stability and simplicity of installation.
  • A double bucket requires two calibrations (one on each side) therefore potentially twice as many sources of imprecision.
  • A double spoon would be more precise provided significant installation resources (level sensor, stability, etc.). So unless several hundred euros are invested, a double bucket will not be better, or even will be less precise.

How to install a Weenat connected rain gauge?

How to install your connected rain gauge?

Like the agricultural anemometer, the frost sensor, the tensiometer, the capacitive probe or the fertigation probe, the Weenat rain gauge is delivered ready to use with an installation guide. You can also find advice and tutorials in the Sensor and accessory installation tab by visiting the Help section of the application.

The funnel and antenna of the rain gauge are already assembled to save you time during installation.

The STAINLESS STEEL stand is removable for minimal bulk during transport and winter storage.

Where to install your weather sensor?

Pay attention to the installation location of your connected rain gauge.

  • Be sure to position the device on flat, open ground.
  • Avoid proximity to walls, buildings, trees or any obstacle likely to shelter the rain gauge: this could interfere with measurements.
  • Ideally, the distance between the rain gauge and an obstacle should be greater than four times the height of that obstacle.

How to maintain the connected rain gauge?

How to maintain your weather station?

Leaves, dirt, insects… So many elements that can alter the measurement quality of your rain gauge. While these residues can obstruct the funnel, they especially risk blocking the spoon used to measure the rainfall on your plot.

This is why it is recommended to check the condition of the equipment at least once a month. For this, a few simple gestures are enough:

  1. Check the correct positioning of the antenna: it must be vertical and screwed until blocked.
  2. Check the integrity of the housing: it must be intact and closed.
  3. Check the positioning of the sensor in the ground at the desired depth using the reference marks present on the sensor rod.
  4. Inspect the funnel of the connected rain gauge: nothing should obstruct the flow of water.
  5. Check the condition of the tipping spoon: it must be clean and nothing should prevent its tipping. If it is dirty, clean it with a damp cloth.

How to replace the humidity probe of your Weenat rain gauge?

Any capacitive technology humidity probe must be regularly maintained to ensure measurement precision. This maintenance consists of recalibrating or changing the probe.

To always provide you with more daily precision, Weenat chooses facilitated maintenance:

On simple request and once a year, we send you a recalibrated probe.

Upon receipt, disassemble the rain gauge and install the new probe in your sensor: this operation takes less than 5 min. The steps are detailed in video in our tutorial.

Once the probe is replaced, your connected rain gauge is ready for a new season.
